Do You Know How Long It Takes for Invisalign® to Shift Your Teeth Into Their Desired Position?

Posted .

When you wear Invisalign® aligners to straighten your teeth, you may start to see results within the first few weeks, which can be encouraging! However, bear in mind that the average treatment time with the Invisalign system is from 12 to 18 months. To successfully complete your treatment with this orthodontic system takes self-discipline on your part. If you don’t wear your aligners as directed, they can’t do their job!

How to Successfully Wear Your Aligners
Wear your aligners between at least 22 hours every single day. This allows them to shift your teeth into their new position before switching to the next aligner in the series. Part of your treatment plan is determining what your progress should be in the scheduled amount of time to make sure you are on track with your smile goal.

Wearing aligners initially can feel uncomfortable but you will feel better as your mouth adjusts to the shift. Take out the aligners to eat, drink (except water!) and clean your teeth. The great thing about aligners vs. braces is being able to eat your favorite foods or preferred diet and also brush and floss without any braces hardware in the way.

You can expect to wear your aligners anywhere from 12 to 18 months. This is determined by how diligently you wear them, how well your teeth cooperate and how much movement you are trying to achieve. A mild correction takes less time to achieve than a bigger shift in correcting your bite.
