Invisalign® First Treats Your Child’s Growing Jaw To Prevent Future Orthodontic Issues

Posted .

Most people have heard of the Invisalign® clear aligner system that treats the smile of teens and grown-ups. Did you know that Invisalign First is specifically created to guide your younger child’s developing jaw to help prevent future orthodontic problems from popping up?

Invisalign First is an ideal intervention for children ranging from 6 to 10 years old with a developing jaw. This is the age where they typically still retain most of their primary teeth. In this case, your child’s jaw can be properly expanded to prevent crowding and spacing problems. The aligners work by fixing the jaw’s positioning to keep orthodontic issues from arising later.

How Invisalign First Can Help

  • Aesthetic alignment of the teeth
  • Arch development
  • Expansion of narrow arches
  • Overbites, underbites, crossbites and overjets
  • Protruding teeth
  • Spacing between teeth or overcrowding

How Invisalign First Works

Invisalign aligners are removable, custom-made, clear plastic trays that fit snugly over your child’s teeth. They simply wear a series of aligner trays over their teeth and every couple of weeks change them out. The aligners apply pressure to the teeth so they gradually align their teeth and bite.

To see how your child may appear after their aligner treatment, check out Igel Orthodontics Invisalign’s® SmileView™ technology. You will see a computer-generated simulation of your child’s smile after treatment. You can upload a photo of your child’s face, and get a smile preview back in minutes!

Invisalign First Tips

  • Your child must wear their aligners for a minimum of 22 hours every day for them to properly align their jaw and straighten their teeth.
  • Your child can take them out whenever cleaning their teeth and aligners.
  • Your child can keep the aligners in when eats, but have the option of taking them out if needed.

The difference between Invisalign First and the other Invisalign treatment choices is the extra features designed to treat their developing jaw. While Invisalign First straightens their teeth and aligns their bite, they also expand and alter your child’s developing jaw shape with palatal arch expansion. This happens when the aligners apply pressure to your child’s teeth to expand the width of their dental arch.

Complimentary Consultation and Evaluation

To determine whether Invisalign First can be used to treat your child’s growing smile, they will need to come in for a consultation where our expert orthodontist, Dr. Kort Igel, can evaluate their jaw with a 3D scan of your kid’s teeth and bite. You will also be able to view the digital plan and overview of their projected treatment. If your child is a good candidate for this treatment we will have their first set of custom aligners within a few weeks. When they come in for the appointment, Dr. Igel and our team will help fit the aligners as well as schedule their check-up appointments after which they will change them out every few weeks when ready.
